Important Note For Fantasy Football Players
Atlanta Falcon's starting quarterback Mike Vick was dealt a horrifing blow to his career on Sunday August 17. The falcons were playing a preseason game aginst the Baltimore Ravens. During a play early in the game Mike Vick landed on his ankle wrong resulting in him breaking his fibula. The doctor who is in charge of Vick's recovery stated to the press that the next 10-14 days will be the most important in the recovery process. Over those 10-14 days he will be keeping an eye out on how Vick's bones are healing together via x-ray. This has not been ruled as an injury that will remove Vick for the season, but fans have their doubts. As for now the bones seem to be aligned so if they stay in this condition then the healing should take about 6 weeks. Fans sit back in anticipation and wait to see what will happen. What does this men to you as a fantasy football player? Well this means a few things. One if you have drafted and picked Vick then you need to find a worthy replacement and if you haven't drafted yet then you will want to avoid wasting a pick on Vick, although if you have a good first pick who has a bye-week late in the season then you can wait until the last round of your draft and pick Vick up as a back up and then hope he recovers. If not then you have plenty of time to find another person. Another person this injury effects is Peerless Price. Will he still be as effective with backup quarter back Doug Johnson who was a back-up in Tennesse for four years. So it's up to you now to decide the fate of these two in your draft. Good luck. And an added note to John Madden. Don't ever put a person as good as Vick on your game again or the Madden curse will strike again. Look what happened to Vick this year and what happened to Marshall Faulk last year.
Broncos' Davis Not To Play
The Denver Broncos were quite unhappy to learn that their star running back Terrell Davis would not be able to pass his physical. Davis had been working in their training camp at Pheonix, but head coach Mike Shanahan said that Davis would not be able to pass his physical by the start of their training camp. Davis doesn't wish to retire just yet. He has the determination to keep playing so he was told that if he could eventually pass that physical then the Broncos would love to have him back. The Broncos gain from this on the salary cap front saving around $355,000 this season and about $1.2 million next year, although this does leave quite a gap in their offensive line-up. Davis, MVP of the 1997 Super Bowl, rushed for 7,607 career yards. He holds or shares 56 team records 21 in the postseason including most rushing yards, total yards from scrimmage and rushing touchdowns. Davis will be sorely missed not only by Denver and its fans, but by fantasy players everywhere.
Millen Fined On Minority Ignorance
President of the Detriot Lions Matt Millen was fined $200,000 by the NFL for not interveiwing minority canidates for the head coaching job before he hired the Lions' newest head coach Steve Mariucci. After their last head coach was fired back in January Mariucci was the only canidate interveiwed for the job. "While we respectfully disagree with the decision made by the commissioner and the league's diversity committee, we continue to enthusiastically support all initiatives which promote diversity in hiring with respect to coaching and front office positions in the NFL, and remain proud of the Lions' long-standing record of diversity within our employment ranks," team spokesman Bill Keenist said. "We will have no other comments on this issue, choosing rather to focus on the start of training camp and the 2003 football season." It was agreed in December by league owners that all teams must interveiw at least one minority before hiring a new head coach. The decision to not interveiw any minority coaches before making a decision was highly criticized by the NFL Association and the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers Dan Rooney. Correction: We are making a correction to this due to newly learned information. Millen wanted to interveiw 5 other minority canidates, but each turned him down because they believed Mariucci would be hired no matter what happened in the interviews.
