A Debate Over The Top Ten Players List!

Words from Jared: Why Dave's Top Ten Sucks

Although he occasionally made a few good points, most of the time he made horrible picks and predictions.  I'll start out by acknowledging that Dave made a solid pick for the top overall player.  Priest Holmes is an incredible player that is a threat to score every time he touches the ball.  He is an excellent reciever as well as an incredible running back.  Now, Dave made the regrettable mistake of ranking Marshall Faulk third.  Now, Faulk is an incredible player but he is coming off a disappointing injury filled season.  Vick may be the fastest quarterback to ever play and he also has a cannon for an arm.  Dave, in his stupidity, has Vick ranked at number 5.  Vick will have much better numbers this year because he has All-Pro wideout Peerless Price to throw to this year.  Perhaps the biggest mistake Dave made on this list though was ranking David Boston at number 10.  Boston didn't even play last year because of an injury.  No one knows if Boston can play like his old self and even when he was at his best he wasn't a top ten player.  What makes his addition to the list so ridiculous is that Dave left the best wide reciever in football off of the list.  Terrel Owens is an great reciever that routinely makes incredible catches and burns defenders.  He caught 20 passes in a single game at one point, which is a NFL record.  To leave him off the list is absurd.  He should be ranked as high as 3.  Dave also put Randy Moss on the list at number 8.  This was a mistake.  Even with his God given talent Moss isn't a top ten player because of his tendency to have a lack of effort in some of his plays and the fact that he plays on the lowly Vikings.  Instead of Moss, Dave should have put Marvin Harrison on the list.  This wide reciever has had more catches than anyone over the past several years.  He has an incredible work ethic and positive attitude and can take the punishment of catching balls in the middle.  He is the favorite target of All-Pro QB Peyton Manning.  No NFL defender wants to match up against Marvin Harrison.  This concludes my column.  Hopefully Dave won't make so many mistakes next time.

My Top Ten:
1.  Priest Holmes
2.  Ricky Williams
3.  Terrell Owens
4.  Michael Vick
5.  Rich Gannon
6.  Marshall Faulk
7.  LaDainian Tomlinson
8.  Marvin Harrison
9.  Donovan McNabb
10.  Peyton Manning

Dave's Opinion- Why I picked what I picked...

Ok Jared does make a few interesting points and I will go over them each individually.  In regards to my ranking of Marshall Faulk I really don't have much to say.  A basic principle that all veteran fantasy football players know is that running backs go faster then popcorn at the movies.  So your number 1 pick should almost always be a runnning back.  Now on to Faulk.  After last years pathetic performance I was almost hesitant to put him as high as I did, but Faulk is one of those players who can easily bounce back from stuff like that.  After watching some of his performances in the preseason I do have to say I may have underestimated him and the Rams.  They seem to be a whole different team from their sorry performance last season.  Requarding Mike Vick I need to say one thing.  He is now ranked lower due to injury.  I put Vick where I put him for the reason which I stated earlier.  The main focus for fantasy football teams should be the position of running back.  The quarterback position comes second.  I wanted to make sure that I included the best of the runnning back crop before I moved on to the quarterbacks, of which I think Mike Vick is on top of the pile.  Mike Vick is a good all around player that can make magic happen, but this recent injury that he suffered during a game against the Baltimore Ravens will take him out for the majority of the up and coming season.  Moving on to David Boston as my number 10 pick.  I think this man needed to be on the list more for the reason that he is a very underrated player.  When he was playing with the Arizona Cardnals he was amazing.  And to be good on a team as bad as the Cardnals means he has skill.  Now that he has gone and joined up with the San Diego Chargers he has a chance to shine.  He needs to be recognized and this is how I'm going to do it.  Ah yes Terrell Owens.  Just one of many great players out there who didn't make it upon my list.  This is only the top ten so I can't fit them all in and I'm sorry that 10 isn't 20.  If I was doing the top 20 then it would be different, but I'm not.  So there.  I've said my bit.  Hope you enjoy!
